Step 1
Preparing for your Application

Find the One

Start your journey by searching open roles and finding the jobs that best match your qualifications.

Gather the Essentials

Items needed for the application process:

  • Valid e-mail address
  • Digital copy of your resume

Your Resume is Your First Impression:

  • Keep your resume simple with basic font - we look for clear examples of results, ownership, and impact.
  • It should reflect recent and relevant accomplishments
  • Double check contact info for accuracy and save in PDF format

Submit Your App

You’ve searched and found the right job. You’ve prepped for success. You’re ready to submit your app. Once you click that button, make sure to check your email for a confirmation and follow any additional instructions you receive for next steps.

Step 2
Preparing for your Vervoe Skills Assessment

For some roles, we may require a Vervoe assessment. This assessment is a chance for you to show us your fit at Lumen and to emphasize your skills with real-life examples of your experience. We use skills assessments to reduce bias and focus on your abilities, not just your background.

Step 3
P.L.A.N

Prepare
  • Ensure you are in a quiet room where you can focus and are not distracted
  • Prepare your own “cheat sheet”
    • Research the most commonly asked questions and develop answers that showcase strong, solid experience or results related to the topic.
    • Review the job description carefully and try to craft answers to potential questions around the skills needed.
  • Understand who is calling and do a quick LinkedIn search to figure out what their role is at the company
    • If your call is with a recruiter, you may receive more basic pre-screening questions.
    • If your call is with the hiring manager, you may receive more focused, skill and behaviorally based questions.
  • Ensure you have a basic understanding of the company
Listen
  • Listen carefully to the questions and ask the interviewer to repeat a question or clarify a question, if needed
  • Slow down and take your time to answer the question. If you need to take a moment to think through your answer, take your time
Ask Questions

This is a time for us to get to know you more, but also for you to get to know us.

  • Prepare questions to ask the interviewer(s) ahead of time
  • Jot down any others you think of as you move through the interview process
Never Fear
Interviews are exciting, but they can also cause anxiety. Give yourself time to take a few deep breaths, maybe take a quick walk or stretch and relax before your interview. You won’t have to bring anything to the interview except confidence and your authentic self.

Connecting to the Interview

  • Video conferencing information will be provided by your recruiter prior to the interview.
  • Download any applications required and utilize the test features to ensure it is working correctly on your device.
  • Identify a well-lit and quiet environment with a professional background (think blank wall or bookshelf) that is free from distraction.

When a Plan Fails

  • Make sure you have identified a back-up plan in the event that there are internet connection issues in your current location.
  • If using a laptop, mobile phone, or tablet, ensure that the device is fully charged prior to the interview.

Stay Professional

  • Dress for a virtual interview the same way you would for an in-person one. We don’t care if you wear slippers, but please be sure to wear pants!
  • Monitor your body language throughout the interview. Maintain a professional position, smile, and keep the camera at eye level to maintain focus on the interviewer.
