Interviewing
For some roles, Lumen does use an online skills-based assessment hosted by our vendor partner Vervoe. The skills-based assessment is designed to give you a chance to show how your skills align with the basic skills needed for success on the job. The system scores your answers based on what Lumen leaders and subject matter experts have identified as a great answer. Lumen’s Talent Acquisition team routinely audits assessments to make sure that the system is accurately scoring candidate responses.
If an assessment is required for a role you will receive additional communication after applying for the requisition with information on how to complete the assessment.
To remain in consideration for these positions, it is recommended that you complete the assessment as soon as possible, but at latest within 3 days of your application date.
AI and Vervoe
Great question. Because we are a government contractor, and in order to ensure our selection processes do not adversely impact applicants we assess the results annually. New York City requires that results be audited annually and requires the audit results be posted. You can view the current results of that audit here.

Because our Vervoe assessments are skills-based, this means they are tailored to each job and are likely different for each job you apply for. If you apply to a job that uses the same Vervoe skills assessment that you have completed within the last six months, you will not be asked to
complete the assessment again. The system will use your previous score until six months have passed since you last completed the assessment.
To help drive our commitment to strong, diverse talent, if a Vervoe assessment is assigned to a position, only candidates who complete the Vervoe process will be considered during the hiring process.
Vervoe is only one part of the overall Lumen recruitment process for certain positions, and the assessment is aligned to the core skills required for success in the position as identified by Lumen Leaders. We encourage you to review our Interviewing At Lumen page to help prepare and feel confident in your virtual assessment!
You are likely already prepared! Vervoe assesses candidates on the core skills required for success on the job. If you have the skills, you are set!
Keep in mind that the assessment is looking at skills – examples may include decision making, excel, data analysis, and communication. It’s okay if some terminology is unfamiliar to you – think about what the question is asking and what skill you might be showcasing. Use your past experience and do your best!
