Service in Action
Sergeant John Wyatt served in the US Air Force from 1985 to 1992, with a significant assignment at Ruppsertsweiler, Germany, the NATO war HQ. During his time in Ruppsertsweiler, Sergeant Wyatt witnessed the historic moment when East Germany broke down the wall separating East and West Germany, marking the end of an era of division. One of Sergeant Wyatt's notable achievements during this period was his pivotal role in modernizing the Telecommunication Systems Control Facility. He was singled out by the NATO integrated systems inspection team as the best technician they had seen in all of NATO, leading to the best rating ever given to a NATO Communications facility.

“I was a military dependent all of my young life. I joined the Air Force in 1976 after high school. First assignment? Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. My dad was also stationed there. It was my first year of active duty and my dad's last year before he retired after serving for 27 years. It was a great year, but the highlight was my dad and I were the first father and daughter to join the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA). The story was printed with a photo, in the base newspaper and is part of AFSA history. Very proud moment for two Airman. Aim High! Fly-Fight-Win! I am very proud to have served my country.”
