IN-PERSON/VIRTUAL
INTERVIEW TIPS

COVID-19 update

Lumen is closely following the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and are committed to processes that keep our employees and possible future employees safe. Out of an abundance of caution, most of our on-site interviews are being conducted virtually. The virtual process steps will be discussed with you by someone on the interview team. For any interviews that are required to be held on-site, a member of the interview team will walk you through the process of safely entering, interviewing, and exiting the location.

Icebreakers are great, but wouldn’t it be nice if the ice was already broken? Break the ice before your interview by learning more about Lumen.

Interviews at Lumen focus on two main things:

img1
Behavioral-based questions which ask about past situations or challenges you’ve faced and how you handled them.

Skill-based questions, which focus on ensuring you have the appropriate skill set(s) for success in the position.
Looking at both dimensions helps give us the total picture of how you could fit into a role at Lumen.

One thing you’ll learn about Lumen is that we value diversity and how it makes our organization stronger. If, due to a disability, you require a reasonable accommodation to participate in an interview, please

Virtual interviews - the future is now, temporarily:
While we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely, we have adapted our interview process to protect our current and future employees. Virtual interviews are new for a lot of us, so here are some tips to navigate through one.
Connecting to the interview
The recruiting team will provide video conferencing information prior to the interview. Make sure you download any applications required and utilize the test features to ensure it is working correctly on your device.
When a plan fails
Make sure you have Identified a back-up plan in the event there are internet connection issues in your current location. If using a laptop, mobile phone, or tablet, ensure that the device is fully charged prior to the interview
Stay home, but stay professional
Identify a well-lit and quiet environment with a professional background (think blank wall or bookshelf) that is as free from distraction as possible. Also, monitor your body language throughout the interview. Maintain a professional position, smile, and keep the camera at eye level to maintain focus on the interviewer.
All dressed up and nowhere to go
Dress for a virtual interview the same way you would for an in-person interview. We don’t care if you wear slippers, but please be sure to wear pants!
